While the Office of the Prime Minister of Turkey has released a statement in which it declared that 95 people were killed and 246 wounded in yesterday’s bombing attacks in Ankara, HDP co-President Selahattin Demirtaş challenged the official government account in a press conference and put the number of dead at at least 128 – reports an article in the Turkish daily Radikal.
While the statement released by the PM’s office provided the names of the 77 of those killed in the attacks, the HDP press office provided a list to the media with the names 120 people killed in the bombings, adding that 8 of the bodies had yet to be identified.
The HDP statement read in part:
‘Our General Crisis Center has established the names of 120 people killed in the massacre at yesterday’s peace rally. The remains of eight victims have yet to be identified. We have still been able to get news from over one hundred of our compatriots.’
