At least two people are dead and seventeen have been wounded after peshmerga and local security forces affiliated with the KDP opened fire on protesters in the town of Qaladiza (Qeladizê) in the KRG, according to a report from ANF.
The names of the dead are reported as Mihemed Resud and Mamosta Mihemed, a physical education teacher. A number of the wounded are reported to be in serious condition.
The massacre occurred as local residents of Qaladiza attempted to gather for a march on the town’s KDP offices in order to protest government inaction around the growing economic and political crisis in the KRG.
After news of the attacks spread locals set fire to the KDP building in the nearby town of Jerawa and closed the road to traffic between Ranya and Jerawa. People in the town of Sengeser are also reported to be gathering for a march on the town’s KDP offices.
Do we have any more information on this for English readers?
As an American largely dependent on the big business press for information, I have no idea what the factions are within Kurdish society and what they are arguing about. I general description of Kurdish politics would be very helpful.
