The BDP/HDK have announced their plans for rallies scheduled for this Sunday, September 1 – World Peace Day. Major demonstrations are set to take place in Istanbul, Diyarbakir, Van, and Mersin amid the growing prospect of further Western intervention in Syria.
Protesters will be demanding an end to Turkey’s role in the conflict, and in particular its support for Islamic groups who have launched an offensive in Rojava; they will also be rallying in solidarity with the revolution in Rojava and with the demand for a peaceful end to the conflict.
Calls to attend the rally have been made by made by a number of political parties, labor unions, and civil organizations. Most recently Cemil Bayık, a senior commander in the PKK, echoed this call.
